ADHD in adolescents and adults

Abstract

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has been a well-known and much-discussed disorder in children and adolescents for years, but has received adequate attention in adults only relatively recently. Studies have shown that approximately half of those who had the disorder in childhood continue to have it in adulthood. Reliable and valid assessment instruments as well as psychopharmacological and psychotherapeutic treatment options with corresponding evidence of efficacy are now available for adults. Adult ADHD can therefore be regarded today as a disorder that can be reliably diagnosed and effectively treated.
