Abstract
This dissertation is concerned with the empirical evaluation of the effects of Theraplay, a developmentally oriented, interactive, directive short-term play therapy. Since 1968, this form of therapy has proven suitable in practice for treating kindergarten-, preschool-, and school-age children with emotional and social behavioral problems and attachment disorders. However, the effectiveness observed in everyday therapeutic practice had not been scientifically evaluated before this treatment outcome study began, not even in the United States.
