Clinical features and diagnosis of nocturnal enuresis

Abstract

Nocturnal enuresis is defined as normal filling and normal emptying of the urinary bladder at the wrong time (during sleep) and in the wrong place (the bed) in a child older than five years. Primary monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis must be differentiated diagnostically from nocturnal enuresis as a symptom indicating an underlying disorder. This can be achieved using noninvasive diagnostic procedures that do not burden the child, including a structured medical history, physical examination, urinalysis, and ultrasound of the urinary tract.
