Neuropsychological Assessment of Adult ADHD

Abstract

ADHD can be regarded as a multidimensional disorder often accompanied by neuropsychological impairments. Not only attention intensity, attention control and executive functions are affected but also additional interactions with motivational factors can be observed. Therefore individual variations on the impact of ADHD-pathology are common. Functional impairments in ADHD are linked to behavioral problems which support the integration of neuropsychological parameters in the diagnostic process. This paper provides an overview about actual diagnostic instruments to assess neuropsychological impairments of attention. By including a case-study, data resulting from the diagnostic assessment are discussed. This contribution highlights the need for integration of neuropsychological findings in the diagnostic assessment of adult ADHD.
