Abstract

Most individuals affected by ADHD in childhood still show at least some symptoms in adulthood, and persistence with relevant impairment occurs in about half. Overall, the disorder should be regarded as a chronic condition extending from early childhood development into adulthood. Social, interpersonal, psychological, and economic consequences of adult ADHD (AADHD) may result. There is a high risk of developing psychiatric comorbidities. Accordingly, there is a need to identify early recognizable risk factors associated with an increased risk of persistence into adulthood. This study investigates the influence of child-related, familial, and treatment-related characteristics on the course of ADHD. The aim was to examine predictors of persistence of ADHD symptoms.
