Abstract
Mental health problems in childhood and adolescence represent health impairments with sometimes serious consequences for individual well-being and everyday and social functioning. These problems are also frequently associated with substantial burdens on the social environment. As part of the German Health Interview and Examination Survey for Children and Adolescents (KiGGS), parents of 14,478 children and adolescents aged 3–17 years completed the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ), which assesses behavioral problems and strengths in the domains of emotional problems, hyperactivity, conduct problems, peer problems, and prosocial behavior.
