Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in bulimia nervosa: frequency, neuropsychological similarities and differences

Abstract

In the context of bulimia nervosa, symptoms are frequently observed that could also be part of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). In the present study, patients with bulimic eating disorder were examined in detail for the presence of ADHD symptoms. Various attention parameters were compared between the patients and a healthy control group. Neuropsychological tests were also used to assess components of attention that are frequently impaired in patients with ADHD and could be relevant to the regulation of eating behavior. In addition, the frequency of other comorbid mental disorders and personality disorders was recorded.
