Obsessive-compulsive phenomena in children with tic disorder or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder

Abstract

Tic disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are often associated with impulse-control deficits and aggressive behavior. Tic disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorders are closely related at epidemiological, psychopathological, and neurobiological levels; in contrast, ADHD and obsessive-compulsive phenomena initially appear to represent rather opposite poles. The current state of research on the clinical significance of associated compulsive behavior is presented and linked with new data from our own work.
