Diagnosis of ADHD in adulthood: An inventory

Abstract

With the recognition that ADHD can persist into adulthood, the need for differentiated diagnostics arises, as many patients were not assessed during childhood. Until a few years ago, there were hardly any tools available in German-speaking countries to support the diagnostic process; however, this has fundamentally changed and is the subject of this article. Today, diagnosticians can draw on a range of interviews and rating procedures to supplement a comprehensive medical history. However, the diverse comorbidities must also be considered in the diagnostic process. The outcome of the diagnostic process, however, remains a clinical diagnosis, as no instrumental procedures are currently available for this purpose.
